According to the BC Wildfire Service, four new fires have sprung up in the past 24 hours, including a 237 ha lightning-caused blaze near Cherry Lake, about 45 km south of Cranbrook, discovered yesterday (August 25).

There is a .1 ha fire about 1.5 kilometres from the northwest corner of Gilnockie Provincial Park. It is suspected that this fire was human-caused.

There are also two other lightning-caused fires near Yahk. One, at Mahon Creek, about six km from Yahk is currently .8 ha in size and another at Hawkins Creek, about 11 km southeast of Yahk, is currently .3 ha in size.
