Truck stolen in order to steal boat
On March 15, at 9:32 a.m., Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter and theft of a boat and trailer at a business located in the Athalmer Industrial Park.
The complainant, who was the business owner, reported that his locked compound was broken into overnight, the gate was taken off, and one boat on a trailer was taken.
Video surveillance shows a couple of suspects skulking inside the yard, where they manipulated the gate, drove a Ford F350 extended cab in, hooked up to the boat and drove out.
The boat is a 2010 black Tige RZR and the trailer is a 2010 registered out of Alberta. Total loss is approximately $63,000.
This occurred approximately between 12:30 and 2 a.m. Police took photos and seized several items of evidentiary value. Video surveillance has also been obtained.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., dispatch reported that a brown 2005 Ford F350 was stolen from another business in the industrial park sometime overnight. Police confirmed that this was the Ford that was used to steal the boat. On March 15, at 6:40 p.m, Columbia Valley RCMP were dispatched to a theft of vehicle from a business in Invermere’s industrial park. The complainant and registered owner reported that his brown 2005 Ford F350, was stolen sometime overnight.
The owner reported that he had it parked at the local business as it required repairs. Police spoke with the business owner who reported that at approximately 6:30 p.m. on March 14, he parked the Ford in the line-up of cars in front of the shop on the south end of the property and confirmed that it was locked.
The owner advised that they did not know it was missing until the afternoon of March 15. Total loss is approximately $18,000.
The owner of the truck reported that he was unsure if there was a spare key in the Ford, and that his tank was full. Contents in the Ford total approximately $300. Video surveillance of a boat and trailer that were stolen in the early morning of March 15, confirms that the Ford was used to steal them.
Police continue to investigate and have some very strong leads, reported Cpl. Grant Simpson of Columbia Valley RCMP.
