Obituary of Glenn UPHILL

Glenn UPHILL

August 24, 1951 ~ September 12, 2026 (age 75)

Glenn Douglas Uphill passed away on September 12, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family, who will miss him deeply. Glenn was born in Fernie, BC, on August 24, 1951, and it was here that he chose to make his home, build his life, and raise his family. Glenn’s strength remained remarkable right up until the very end. It was fitting that the way Glenn left this life reflected so much of the way he lived it: quietly, with strength, dignity, and on his own terms.

Glenn spent more than 40 years in the mining industry as an electrician, a career in which he earned the deep respect of the people he worked with. Since his passing, we have been reminded of how much he was respected through stories shared with us about his years on the job – stories that speak to his skill, his strong work ethic, and above all else, his quick wit and sense of humor.

Glenn had a lifelong love of the outdoors, whether hiking, snowshoeing, walking, fishing, or biking. He also treasured his many years at his cabin at Loon Lake, where he created countless memories and enjoyed time spent with family.

Glenn’s love of the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life, right up until his final days. As long as he was able, he continued to walk the trails he loved, finding peace and enjoyment in being outside. He was well known for taking his family along on some of his favourite trails, always encouraging everyone to keep going with his familiar words, “not much farther.” Of course, more often than not, there was a little more trail ahead than he had let on. Those walks became memories his family will treasure—not only for the places they explored together, but for the humour, persistence, and quiet determination that were so much a part of Glenn.

Glenn was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and made a point of being present for the moments that mattered—from birthdays and holidays to the milestones that marked their growing lives. He could often be found sitting in cold hockey arenas on weekends, watching his grandchildren play and cheering them on.

Glenn leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Carol Uphill. They were married in Fernie on May 6, 1972. Together, they raised three children and remained closely connected to them as adults, taking pride in their lives and finding happiness in the times they shared as a family. That closeness was one of the most lasting things they created together.

Glenn will be forever missed by his three children, Glenna (Kevin), Jason (Sue-Anne), and Shannon (Kevin), and his five grandchildren: Connor, Kaden, Parker, Zack, and Harley. He also leaves behind his brothers, Donald (Donna) and Bob (Karen); his sister, Shirley, and his many nieces and nephews, who will each carry their own memories of him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Louise Uphill, and his brothers, Tom and Harold Uphill.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring nurses and doctors at the Elk Valley Hospital, as well as the home healthcare team for their care, compassion, and support.

In keeping with Glenn’s quiet and private nature, his family will gather later to celebrate his life and honour the memories they hold so dearly.
