Obituary for Barbara Frances Steranka

BARBARA FRANCES STERANKA

AUGUST 27, 1945 – JANUARY 15, 2020

It is with great sadness that Barbara Frances Steranka (Nightingale) passed away peacefully at the Cranbrook hospital on January 15, 2020, at the age of 74.

Barb was born August 27,1945, to Alfred and Marjorie (King) Nightingale in Preeceville, Saskatchewan hospital.

Barb was raised in Olka, Saskatchewan with her siblings- four brothers and five sisters.

Barb attended school in Okla, Saskatchewan and then her high school in Sturgis, Saskatchewan.

Barb worked for the Moose Jaw City Police as a secretary and later sold real estate through Century 21 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Barb was blessed with two sons: Scott and Jeff.

In 1995 Barb retired and moved to Cranbrook British Columbia where she enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Barb was very active and enjoyed the outdoors. Barb spent time hiking, cross country skiing and swimming at Jim Smith and Moyie Lake. Barb also enjoyed badminton, tennis, pickleball as well as gardening at the Cranbrook Community gardens.

Left to cherish the memories of Barb are her sons:

Scott(Andrea) of Rama, Saskatchewan and Jeff(Dayna) of Calgary, Alberta; her four grandchildren Tyson, Megan, Cole and Lauren; and her sisters June(Cliff) Cook, Nancy(Bob) Dayman, sister in laws: Peggy Nightingale, Dianne Nightingale, Ernestein Nightingale, Ann Nightingale as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Barb was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Marjorie Nightingale; her brothers Dennis, Richard(Dick), Larry, Walter and her sisters Bessie Nightingale, Iris(Bill) Taylor and Ethel(Ken) Cook.

Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Barbara Steranka.
