Obituary for Lois Nanette Kennelly

Lois Nanette Kennelly

September 19, 1930 ~ September 2, 2019

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Lois Nanette Kennelly. Nan passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 2, 2019. She will be dearly missed by her surviving nine children, Lori (Ian), Martin (Lisa), Linda (Brad), Lois (Kerry), Lisa (Murray), Sandra (Derrick), Sharon, Heather (Brian) and Paul. She will also be forever missed by her 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Mom was born in Hamilton, Ontario on September 19, 1930. After moving a few times as a Navy brat, her parents and siblings finally settled in Golden, B.C. where they owned and operated the Swiss Village Motel. This is where mom met our dad, Harry. Mom and dad eventually married, built a home in Cranbrook, and had eleven children together. They were happily married for over 62 years.

Mom had a short career as a BC Tel operator before she got married. When her children grew up, she decided to get her drivers license at 50 years of age and a job at McDonalds. She loved going to work and didn’t ever want to retire. Everyone in town knew who “Nan” will miss her warm-hearted smile and exceptional service. Mom also loved preparing large meals at family gatherings, playing crib and other card games, and her monthly Rumoli games with “the girls”, which extended over 40 years.

Mom was the longest surviving child in her family. She will now be able to re-unite with her husband Harry, her sisters, Pat and Peggy; brothers, Jack and Ernie; mother Florence; father, Ernest and daughter Nancy in heaven.

There will be prayers at McPherson Funeral Services on Sunday, September 8th at 7 pm, and a funeral service at Christ the Servant Church on Monday, September 9th at 11 am. Interment will follow at Fort Steele Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. https://alzheimer.ca/en/Home/Get-involved/Ways-to-donate

The family would also like to thank the FW Green Memorial Home nurses, care aids and staff for their kindness and special care they gave our mom during her staying there.
