Obituary of Bohdan Edward Derkach

Bohdan Edward Derkach

March 21, 1929 – June 18, 2020

Ed passed peacefully in Cranbrook, B.C., on June 18, 2020 at the age of 91. A small family service was held at Westlawn Cemetery July 6, 2020.

Ed was born close to Ituna, Saskatchewan. Ed quit school at the age of 12 to drive truck, a year later the police finally caught up with him and pulled him over in town. He was told to walk over to the courthouse across the street. The police officer recommended to the Judge that he receive his drivers’ licence and through the powers that be, was issued a licence. This started him on his career of driving truck, holding his class 1 licence until the age of 89.

Ed loved fast trucks and good whiskey. He also loved to go hunting, make pierogis and pies, and if you had the time; a good story, a shot of whiskey and a piece of pie that he would bake almost every other day. A book of his adventures is on its way!

He is survived by his loving wife Mary of 69 years, sons Lorne (Louise), Greg (Luciana), Luke (Debbie), grandchildren Jody (Melissa), Jamie, Dustin (Ashley), Lance (Stephanie), Cody (Melissa), great grandchildren, Jaxon, Aria, Chase, Evelyn, Vivian, Beau.

Ed was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Rose, brothers Peter, Mike, Walter, Don and sisters Ann, Mary, and Elisabeth.

A special thank you to Dennis Hockley for his kind words and stories of Ed. Thank you to McPherson Funeral Services for handling all arrangements.
