It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brandon “Brando” Douglas McKenzie on July 28, 2026, in the presence of those he loved most—his wife Sierra, his daughter Taija, and his mother, Tanis Pouliot.

Born on March 30, 1982, Brandon lived with a deep love for his family, dedication to his work, and a sense of humor those who knew him will never forget.

Brandon lived his life with his wife, Sierra McKenzie (Hills), his partner, and best friend of over 18 years. He was a proud and fiercely devoted father to his daughter, Taija McKenzie, who held a very special place in his heart.

Family meant everything to Brandon. He was a fatherly figure to all children around him, his nieces, his nephews, or any child in his presence. It didn’t matter whose child it was. He would be yelling solid fatherly advice.” Put your socks on. Eat your vegetables. Turn the lights off. Spray down.” Brandon created memories they will carry for the rest of their lives.

Brandon was the hardest working man you ever met. He took great pride in his work. The best in his trade…, But the humblest. Although he was a master in his trade, He was never too good to teach the next guy.

Outside of work, Brandon loved paintballing and being outdoors. He spent as much time camping as he could, especially when surrounded by family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were simple ones: being outside, with the people he loved, sharing a laugh.

And Brandon made people laugh.

He had a famously dark sense of humor and never hesitated to say what others wouldn’t. Those who knew him expected it—a quick remark, an ill-timed joke, or something that left you shaking your head while trying not to laugh. That humor was part of who he was, and the laughter he brought will be deeply missed.

As his condition progressed, Brandon had less to give physically, but he continued to give what he could. Even at the end of his life, he focused on the people he would leave behind, ensuring they would be cared for after he was gone.

That speaks more about Brandon than anything else. When he had every reason to turn inward, he thought of others. He left this world with little, because he had already given so much of himself to the people he loved.

Brandon was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He worked hard, loved deeply, laughed often, and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

His life ended far too soon, but it is not defined by the years he lived. It lives on in Sierra and Taija, in his family and friends, and in every story still told about him.

There will always be an empty place where Brandon should be.

But there will also always be stories, laughter, memories, and love.

Brandon was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.

Celebration of life will be held on September 17th 2026 at 1:00pm, at the Cranbrook Fellowship Baptist Church (2000 – 5th St North Cranbrook, BC V1C 4Y1)
