Obituary of Douglas Haig NICHOL
Douglas Haig NICHOL
Doug was predeceased by his mother Margaret in 1955 and his father Haig in 1981, sister-in-law Sharon in 2019, his brother Rod in 2020, and 2 close cousins, Fran, and Bill in 2021 as well as grandparents, aunts, and uncles over the years.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Roylene, his son Wade (Heather) with grandchildren Morgan and Alexandria, and his daughter Laura. Also left to mourn his passing are his stepchildren; David with grandson Jaydon, and Sandy (Jeff) with grandchildren Daniel, Ethan, Makaya & Kallie, as well as his sister Cathie (Adam) Flood, and his brother Bruce (Terri) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug grew up on the family farm just North of Zehner, Saskatchewan and attended the little country school (Etaples). Growing up he spent many hours just down the road with his cousins, Bill, Mike, Linda, Fran, Pat, and Rita, who became his second set of siblings. Doug enjoyed life to the fullest; even as a child he was always game for an adventure – sometimes not the safest, but always took it on full heartedly.
Doug found his passion in running heavy equipment in his teens and took to it like he was born to do it. He worked all over BC and Alberta in the last 55 years, logging and building roads. His affection for his work was second only to his love for his family. We will miss his always funny but sometimes off-colour humour and his distinctive laugh.
We will not be holding a service as per his wishes; we ask instead that you all gather and tell stories and remember him as the larger-than-life man he was.
