Our beautiful Mama, Oma, sister, wife and friend peacefully passed away on June 17th, 2026, at Ivy House in Invermere, BC.

Edeltraut was born in Osterwieck am Harz in Germany in 1937. Lived there with her parents and 2 younger sisters Eva and Rita.

As a teenager Edeltraut and Eva were smuggled out of what was East Germany before the wall went up. She stayed with her Aunt who was a Nun in a convent in West Germany. It was there she met her husband to be, Elmar, at a party with friends. He took one look at her and told his buddy that he was going to marry her. He took his date back home and went back to the party to get to know his beautiful, sweet future wife. They got engaged and made plans to immigrate to Canada. Elmar went ahead and found a place in Calgary, Alberta to settle , Edeltraut followed a year later and they were married in Calgary on April 12, 1958 at St.Marys Church.

They raised their family, 3 daughters, Susan, Elke and Monica in Calgary. Edeltraut always worked, as a seamstress, 20 years for Shell Canada in the drafting department and busy at home cooking, baking, gardening, shopping. She was an avid member of the St.Boniface German church and sang in the church choir for many years. Mom loved to travel, to Germany to visit family, to Mexico and especially to Hawaii, enjoyed spending evenings visiting with friends and was always up for an all-night game of Kanasta. Edeltraut loved her family and friends.

Always making everyone feel comfortable and welcome in our home. She was always described by everyone as a classy lady, inside and out.

She enjoyed spoiling her children and grandchild and all of her dogs and many grand-dogs, especially at Christmas which she always made memorable for us.

Edeltraut was predeceased by her parents Margarete and Paul, her daughter Susan, her loving husband Elmar (on June 17, 2021). By sister Eva, and many beloved pets and grand-dogs.

Edeltraut is survived by 2 daughters , Elke (Perry, Chanel) , Monica ( Rino, Aspen), Grandson Dustin and son-in-law Larry, her sister Rita (Günther), Nieces, Marion, Birgit, Andrea ( Hermie), and great nieces Denise and Michelle . Family in Arizona Heidi and Norbert , Melissa ( Jeff,Kayden,Noah) and Phillip. As well as many friends in Calgary , Alberta.

To honour mom’s wishes a private family service will be held with immediate family. We invite those who knew her to share memories with us on the McPherson funeral home website . In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edeltraut’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Calgary Humane Society.

Special thanks and we are so grateful to Dr. Schaffer and all the staff at Ivy House and Columbia Garden village in Invermere who took such good care of mom while she lived there.
