It is with great sadness we share the passing of Elia Barre. We will miss her greatly, but she leaves us with many wonderful memories. Elia passed peacefully on May 06, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Elia was born April 1st, 1931, in Kimberley BC, where she was raised and spent her youth.

After completing high school Elia moved to Vancouver BC to attend St Paul’s Hospital school of nursing. Her nursing career took her to hospitals in Washington State, Vancouver Island and Cranbrook BC.

Elia returned to Kimberley in 1954 where she met her great love, Gerry Barre. They married in 1956 and had three children. Elia put her nursing career on hold while she focused on raising their family. She then returned to her nursing career and retired after working at the Pines (Kimberley Special Care Home).

Elia loved the lifestyle Kimberley brought her and her family. She enjoyed golf in the spring and summers; she cross country skied in the winters. Elia was a huge Dynamiter fan, often leaving Gerry at home while she headed down to the Civic Centre on game nights to cheer on her favorite team.

She had an amazing group of friends that further enriched her wonderful life.

We would like to thank the nurses, care aides, and all staff at the ‘Pines’ for taking such good care of Elia over the last 5 years.

Elia is lovingly remembered by her children, Brian (Alana), Alan (Marina), Janice (Douglas). Grandchildren, Jessica, Ciara, Max, Alex, Emma (Kaleb), and great granddaughter Olyvia.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rosina and Alex Fabbro and her brother Attilio Fabbro.

A private service for immediate family will be held in the coming months.
