Obituary of Fern MENARD
Fern MENARD
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Fernand Menard, Monday, May 9 2022, after a brief stay in Palliative Care at the Elk Valley Hospital at the age of 90 years.
Fernand was born on February 8, 1932, in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Raised on a farm in St. Eustache, Manitoba, at a young age he learned the value of hard work as he helped with the daily responsibilities of the farm. His family was very musically talented, each playing an instrument or singing. Fern successfully learned how to play the harmonica “by ear”.
Fern married Therese and moved to Winnipeg where they raised four children. He had a passion for camping and travelling across Canada and the US, often heading West to the mountains that he loved. In 2008 he made the decision to be surrounded by them permanently when he moved to Sparwood.
A devout Catholic, Fern was a faithful worshiper and intercessor; praying for the community, family, and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, Avila and Formosa Menard, brothers Marcel, Gerald, Mederic, and Omer, and sisters Solange, Stella, Linda, Cecile, Therese, and Aurore. Fern is survived by sisters Olive and Ida, sister-in-law Solange, brother-in-law Camille, and many nieces and nephews. His children Claude (Kalei), Gabriel, Roxanne (Daniel) Yvon, Colette (Gilles) Damphousse, and grandkids Brigitte (Isaac), Sebastien (Carly), Divan, and Chloe, will cherish the loving memories of stories and music.
The family would like to thank Drs. Rader, Rohn, and Stimson, and all the very compassionate nurses at the Elk Valley Hospital for the loving care provided to Fern and his family.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the wonderful parish of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sparwood.
Inurnment will occur at a later date in St. Eustache, Manitoba.
