Obituary of Gloria Jean BLAKEY

Gloria Jean BLAKEY

December 27, 1944 ~ July 23, 2022 (age 77)

On July 23, 2022 Gloria was reunited with her loving husband Lorne. Gloria was predeceased by her parents John and Jean Cairns, uncles: Jazz, Sonny, Mike and Allan and aunt Anne. She will be deeply missed by her children, John (Monica) and Karen (Malcolm) as well as grandchildren Zack and Kennedy and her faithful companion, Angus. She is survived by in-laws: Gordon (Barb), Doug (Annette), Beryl (Bill), Sylvia (Frank), Judy (Steve) and Jim (predeceased Sylvia) as well as nieces and nephews.

Gloria was born December 27, 1944 in Coal Creek BC then later moved to Fernie, BC. She attended and graduated from the University of Victoria as a teacher. It was at this time she met Lorne, the couple married in 1966 and lived in Qualicum Beach. In 1972 they returned with son, John to Fernie, BC where they currently resided. Gloria taught for over 45 years throughout schools in Fernie and finished her career in Sparwood at Frank J. Mitchell. A highlight of her career as a teacher was being able to teach her two children as well as grandson, Zack.

Gloria was involved in numerous organizations: Beta Sigma Phi, Catholic Women’s League and the Rocky Mountain Village Auxiliary. She enjoyed being outside gardening, she was an avid reader known to have many books on the go, loved trying out new recipes for Lorne to test, and visiting her home in Montana, but most of all walking with her faithful friend, Angus.  Her dogs were her great loves and now she can be greeted at the rainbow bridge by them. Gloria had a heart of gold and would do anything for her family, friends, and strangers. Her kind, generous and caring ways will forever be remembered. We love you mom.

Thank you to Dr Forrest, Dr Ma and Dr Mc Beath for your compassion and kindness. To the nurses and hospital staff that went above and beyond thank you for your support and wonderful care.

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but those whose place no one else can take”
