Obituary of Greg McCormick

In Loving Memory

Greg McCormick

May 4, 1940 – July 6, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, devoted partner, and active community member, Greg McCormick. He passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 82.

Greg was born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick on May 4, 1940 to James and Lucy McCormick. He was the fifth child in a family of 6 boys. He worked in various professions throughout his life, the most prominent being his position as Purchasing Manager for Westar Mining, which he left in 1990. He was very proud of the purchase of the ā€œTitanā€ for hauling coal; it is now on display in Sparwood for public viewing.

Greg enjoyed volunteering for community organizations such as July Fest, the 2008 BC Winter Games,Ā  and the Sullivan Mine Underground Railway.

Greg enjoyed being outside, whether it be fishing, caring for his beautiful yard and garden, or camping at the lake. He appreciated nature and had a fondness for animals, especially his beloved dogs. An avid sports fan, Greg enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, and watching hockey and curling. He was skilled at carpentry, and created many beautiful items for his home.

Greg is survived by loving partner Desiree McKay, daughter Lynn, son Wayne (Angela) McCormick, grandchildren Luna and Trinity McCormick, brothers Neville and Richard, as well asĀ  many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Lucy and James McCormick, and brothers James, Stewart and Al.

Greg was a kind, gentle, caring man with a great sense of humour who was always welcoming and hospitable to everyone. His family always enjoyed his bright smile and thoughtful responses during times spent together. He was dearly loved.

If you so choose, donations can be made in Gregā€™s name to your choice of any charity involving children or animals.

Rest in peace, dear Greg. We will miss you.
