Maria De Angelis

September 30th, 1937 – January 24th, 2020

It is with profound sadness that the family of Maria De Angelis announces her peaceful passing with her family by her side on Friday, January 24th, 2020, at the age of 82 years.

Maria will be sadly missed by those who knew her and by those who loved her deeply.

Maria was born on September 30, 1937, in Forino, Italy. She left Italy to start her new life in Canada at the age of 20 years old.

She is survived by her loving husband Giovanni De Angelis, her children Robert De Angelis, Bonnie (Bob) Chauncey, Mary (Jay) Elliott and Judy (Michael) Casserly. As well as her grandchildren and three great grandchildren, John (Christine & Alex), Jessica (Franco, Federica & Antonio), Brad (Lindsay), Derek, Jenessa, Jaiden, Benjamin & William. Her brother Angelo (Maria) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, John Jr, her mother, Potenza, her father, Carmine, her sister Rosa and her brother Francesco.

Maria was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. She was committed to her family and always put them first. She was an exceptional seamstress who took pride in her work. She was also an amazing cook who loved to overfeed many family members and their friends.

Rosary and prayers for Maria will be held at St. Mary’s Parish in Cranbrook on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 3rd, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish, Cranbrook with the entombment to follow at the Westlawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. M. Dawson and to the hospital staff on the 3rd floor who provided exceptional care during her final weeks.
