Obituary of Shirley Ann Warken
Shirley Ann Warken (Kornum)
November 10, 1933 – April 10, 2026
Shirley Ann Warken passed away peacefully at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on April 10, 2026, at the age of 92.
Shirley was raised on a farm in Fife Lake, Saskatchewan, where she developed the strong work ethic and resilience that guided her throughout her life.
As a young girl, Shirley loved music and singing with her sisters. The trio often performed together at local dances, sharing their love of entertaining. On July 14, 1950, she married Norby. Together, they began their life on the prairies, raising three children before deciding that farming was not their lifelong path. They moved to British Columbia, started a new life, and welcomed three more children. Over the years, they followed work opportunities, eventually settling in Kimberley, BC.
Shirley devoted 20 years to her work as a home care worker, where she was deeply respected and adored by her many clients. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, and she took great pride in her home. Shirley will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor and her unwavering faith.
Shirley is survived by her children Gary (Gayle), Lynn (Perry), and Cynthia (Robert); her sister Christine; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norby; her sons Chester, Conrad, and Garth; her daughter-in-law Deborah; her grandson Wayne; and her granddaughter Shelly.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their compassionate care of our mom.
As per Shirley’s request, there will be no service. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
