Obituary of Sylvia Edith CHIVERS
Sylvia Edith Chivers passed away peacefully in Fernie, BC on August 10, 2026.
Sylvia was born on October 12, 1939 in Windermere, BC alongside her twin sister Pat. Sylvia, Pat, and their younger sister Margaret spent their childhoods roaming Sinclair Canyon in the area of Radium Hot Springs, later moving to Cranbrook.
Once she finished high school, Sylvia went on to UBC to become a teacher. After graduation, she returned to Cranbrook, where she met her future husband Raymond. They were married on June 30, 1962, after which they started their lives together in Fernie. Sylvia knew when she saw the mountains of Fernie that this would be her home for life.
Sylvia was a self-taught pianist and a natural-born artist who could always be found with a drawing in progress and a coloured pencil in-hand. She was also an avid reader with lifelong curiosity and a passion for learning, always seeking to expand her knowledge.
Sylvia was predeceased in 2017 by her husband, Raymond; her sister, Margaret in 2018; her son-in-law, Terry in February 2026, and in May 2026 by her twin sister Pat.
Left to mourn her passing are her four children: David (Deanna), Lisa, Karen (Todd), and Megan. She was also a beloved Nana to her ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Sylvia’s faith was a cherished part of her life and a source of comfort, strength, and peace. Her love for her family was unconditional, and her kindness touched all who knew her.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
There will be no service as per her wishes.
