Run Stop Run coming to Fernie
Run Stop Run is the latest project from Juno-nominated trombonist William Carn.
The group’s much-heralded debut recording was produced by influential saxophonist/ composer David Binney and showcases Run Stop Run’s contemporary sound. This group’s recording is released on Binney’s self-owned Mythology Records label.
Lush and warm, this project incorporates infectious grooves with lyrical melodies. Run Stop Run (RSR) is a collective in every sense of the word.
Led by Carn, this quartet features four of Canada’s top jazz artists performing their own brand of eclectic, original, modern jazz music that creates a variety of textures that simply allow for this ensemble to stand alone in its sound. William Carn’s Run Stop Run is made up of William Carn on trombone and vocal, Don Scott on guitar, Jon Maharaj on bass, Ethan Ardelli on drums.
Run Stop Run will be in Fernie at The Arts Station on Thursday, Jan. 16. Showtime is 8 p.m.
Carn has become one of Canada’s leading jazz trombonists and composers. Besides leading his own acclaimed group, the William Carn Quintet, he has recorded and performed with the likes of Rob McConnell, Carla Bley, Maria Schneider, Steve Swallow, Randy Brecker and Kenny Wheeler.
Guitarist Don Scott has garnered much praise as a player and composer. Having shared the stage with such jazz luminaries as Dave Douglas, Chris Potter and David Binney, Don is also a band leader who recently celebrated the release of his quartet’s first recording, Out of Line.
Jon Maharaj is truly one of Toronto’s busiest bassists. Among his many credits he has worked with Christian Scott, Reg Schwager, Don Thompson, Mike Murley and Dionne Taylor. Jon is also completing his first recording as leader with his trio.
Lastly, Ethan Ardelli has become one of Toronto’s most sought after drummers. He is a member of the award-winning David Virelles Quintet, the Nancy Walker Trio and has recorded with many great artists such as Jane Bunnet and Mark Turner.
Tickets are available at The Arts Station, Freshies and Carosella, and online (www.runstoprun.eventbrite.com).
