Blue Lake program gets $70k from province
The Blue Lake Forest Education Society received a Community Gaming Grant from the B.C. government worth a total of $70,000.
“Blue Lake provides great educational opportunities to children and youth in our community, so I am very happy to see this organization receive this generous amount of funding,” stated Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett, who presented the funds to the society.
“It is truly a unique experience for children and youth to have opportunities to learn about environmental protection and sustainability of our local natural resources. The funds will gratefully go towards purchasing new equipment for the camp and to assist us in bringing day camp programs to Cranbrook for two weeks in August. Blue Lake is extremely thankful to MLA Bill Bennett and the B.C. Government for assisting us achieve our goals which provide memorable experiences that last a life time,” stated Kelly Diamond, executive director, Camp Blue Lake.
Across British Columbia, 119 recipients will share $3,698,801 in the latest round of grants.
Recipients in this round of grants include programs for Human and Social Services, Arts and Culture, and Environment. Community Gaming Grants help local groups provide important services for B.C. families.
Community Gaming Grants allow non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues.
Last fiscal year, in 2011/12, our government distributed a total of $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services. More than 5,300 community groups benefited from funding during 2011/12.
