BPNS Charity Golf nets $25,500 for ICU
Even though the winds were howling, the lighting was striking and the rain drops were falling, the enthusiasm of sponsors, golfers and volunteers at the fourth annual BPNS Charity Golf Tournament was undaunted and the day was completed on a very successful note.
Thanks to the generosity of signature sponsors, Boston Pizza and Northstar GM, the tournament heralded sold out corporate hole sponsors, a full field of golfers, a plethora of auction donations and a dedicated group of volunteer hole spotters.
With the Cranbrook Golf Course set up for 18 par 3s, and three years of golfers vying for a hole-in-one, Theresa Larson, part of the Rella/ Paolini/Rogers foursome, drained a 155 yard shot to win a Chevy Cruz compliments of Northstar GM.
“I am so humbled by the community support for health care in our region and more specifically the ICU redevelopment. I know from a very personal experience how important the ICU is and I couldn’t be more grateful,” shared the enthusiastic golfer.
Hole spotter Rob Klewchuk witnessed the roll in five iron shot on hole No. 5.
Larson wasn’t the only winner as the regional hospital foundation EKFH will receive $25,500 from the tournament proceeds to support the ICU redevelopment project at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. This is the second gift to the ICU from the charity tournament. The first gift of $22,000 in 2013 was dedicated to purchasing ICU ceiling booms resulting in a total commitment to the ICU of $47,500 by the BPNS Charity Golf Tournament.
“The commitment from Boston Pizza and Northstar to the ICU is an incredible testament of believing in bringing the best in health care to the regional hospital. What a spectacular outcome for this tournament and for the ICU fundraising campaign,” explained Donna Grainger, EKFH Executive Director.
The East Kootenay Regional Hospital is in the construction phase for a new intensive care unit. This new addition replaces the current four-bed unit and will also include two new, high-acuity beds. These additional two beds will help relieve pressure on the ICU and preserve resources for the most critically-ill patients while still providing a high level of care for those in need, allowing more patients from the East Kootenay to stay closer to home more often.
