Tax Scam alert

You may receive an email that starts off “Dear Tax Payer.” That should be the first hint this is a scam. Canada Revenue Agency knows your name and would address you properly. A community member reported receiving an email stating that the agency sent an Interac e Transfer for whatever amount is indicated. In this instance $690.18.

The email gives you an expiry date and in order to get your money you are instructed to click onto an attached web site. Email requests certain personal and banking information that you should never hand out under these circumstances.

Unwanted intoxicated female

On Jan. 15 the Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment received a report of an unwanted intoxicated female in the 200 block of 10th Avenue. Police located the female and escorted her to a relative’s residence.

Turn fail

Police attended to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Swansea Road and Sunridge Road at 11 p.m. on Jan. 15. A 1995 Chevrolet pickup failed to turn right damaging a fence and striking a tree. There were no injuries to the 21-year-old driver who was charged with speed relative to road conditions.

Liquor on breath of N plate crasher

At 8:36 a.m. on Jan. 17, the detachment responded to a single vehicle accident on Hwy 93/95, two km south of Kootenay Road #3. A 2015 Mitsubishi driven by a 25-year-old male from Fairmont Hot Springs entered the northbound lane and ended up in the ditch. The driver had liquor on his breath. The driver produced a driver’s licence with a “N” condition of no alcohol. The driver was issued a 12-hour suspension and his vehicle towed.

No second chance for unruly drunk

At 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 17, the detachment received a complaint of a threat being made at Fairmont Hot Springs, where an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance. Police convinced the intoxicated 47-year-old male from Calgary to go back to his room. A second call to attend resulted in the male being arrested for uttering a threat and lodged in cells until sober.

Fort Mac woman charged with assault

At 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, the detachment responded to an assault complaint in the 2000 block of Summit Drive, Panorama Mountain Village. Investigation resulted in a 33-year-old female from Fort McMurray, Alta. charged with assaulting a 26-year-old male. The female was released with a court date of March 30.

Early morning distrurbance in Radium

At 3:10 a.m. on Jan. 18, the detachment responded to a complaint of an intoxicated female causing a disturbance in the lobby of the Best Western Prestige in Radium Hot Springs. A 27-year-old female from Invermere was located while walking in the area. The female was arrested for drunk in public. The female was released to a family member who had been contacted who arrived on scene.

Unlocked, keys in ignition vehicles stolen

At 9 a.m. on Jan. 19, the detachment responded to vehicle thefts. A 2001 GMC 2500 welding truck was stolen from the Brisco Wood Preservers yard. The vehicle was located on Columbia Road in Edgewater. It appears that the person responsible then stole a white ‘94 Ford Ranger on Seel Road in Edgewater. This vehicle, at the time of this media release, has not been recovered. Anyone with information can contact the detachment. Both vehicles were unlocked with keys in the ignition.

Dog whisperer

Cst. Myers responded to a complaint of possible intoxicated male walking with a dog on the travel portion of Hwy 93/95.

The male and his companion were located near Windermere. Cst. Myers questioned the sober one admonishing the dog as to why he would walk his master while intoxicated.

Cst. Myers has a unique relationship with animals. Previously, we learned he was a cow whisperer when he dealt with a gang of delinquent cows on Westside Road. Now I learn he is a dog whisperer as well. Man’s best friend negotiated with Cst. Myers to simply let them go home, which was a short distance away, and he would ensure that his master stays home. With that promise and agreement from the master both carried on home.
