Driver faces multiple charges in Kimberley

A 20-year-old male from Kimberley is facing a number of charges including Impaired Driving and Theft of a Vehicle after an incident Monday night (Aug 19).

Shortly after 8 p.m., RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver; the vehicle was being driven in a reckless manner and the caller believed the owners were out of town.

The initial report indicated the driver was on 4th Avenue in the Townsite area of Kimberley. Police received more reports of the erratic driver, before learning the truck had been involved in a collision in the Kimberley Nature Park near Riverside Campground on St. Mary’s Lake Road. The driver was assisted by campground staff prior to police arrival. Once on scene police noted signs of impairment and he was arrested.

The driver supplied two breath samples (200 and 190 mgs), two and a half times the legal limit. Police were able to contact the registered owner of the truck and learned it had been stolen.

Police appreciate the assistance of a number of persons who called in, this lead to the successful apprehension and arrest. The subject will be attending court in early October where police will be recommending a number of charges.

Kimberley RCMP
