Bylaws
– Bylaw No. 2214, cited as Zoning Bylaw 1750, Amendment No. 146, 2013 for Sarah McFarlane (Lot 2, Block 117, District Lot 4588, Kootenay District, Plan 902) 1421 8th Avenue. City of Fernie council June 10 approved the application to change the zoning of the property from R4 – Multiple Family Residential (High Density) to R1B – Single Detached Plus Residential. The bylaw was given first and second readings. A public hearing to receive comments from citizens will be held on July 8.
DVPs and other permits or licences
– Development Variance Permit Application No. 330 for 1421 8th Avenue for Sarah McFarlane to legalize the siting and maximum eave projections of the existing home and front addition and vary the rear yard setback for secondary dwelling. Council approved Development Variance Permit Application No. DVPA-330 and directed staff to give notice of their intention to consider the issuance of the permit at their June 24 regular meeting.
– Licence of Occupation & Liquor Licence Structural Change for the Fernie Hotel & Pub at 691-1st Avenue for the construction of an outdoor patio. Council approved the issuance of the Licence of Occupation to the Fernie Hotel & Pub for the municipal boulevard adjacent to 691-1st Avenue and endorsed their application to the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch to amend their licence to add a new outdoor patio.
– Temporary Change to Liquor Licence for the Fernie Hotel at 691 1st Avenue. Council authorized the temporary change to the Fernie Hotel’s Liquor Licence to extend their licensed area to include the parking lot adjacent for their establishment for the purpose of operating a Beer Garden during the Fernie Ultra & Endura Race from June 29, to June 30, subject to the approval of the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
– Licence of Occupation & Liquor Licence Structural Change for the Brick House at 401-2nd Avenue for the construction of an outdoor patio. Council directed staff to post notice of its intention to dispose of City property located adjacent to the Brick House and to gather the views of residents that may be affected by their proposed liquor licence change. Consideration of public submissions respecting these applications will take place at the regular meeting on June 24.

Council directed staff to post notice of their intention to dispose of city property located adjacent to the Infinitea Tea Bar & Boutique and to gather the views of residents that may be affected by the proposed liquor licence change. Consideration of public submissions respecting these applications will take place at the regular meeting on June 24.
– Licence of Occupation Royal Hotel located at 501-1st Avenue for the construction of an outdoor patio. Council directed staff to post notice of their intention to dispose of City property located adjacent to the Royal Hotel. Consideration of public submissions respecting this application will take place at the regular meeting on June 24.
– Special Occasion Liquor Licence Application for Canada Day Beer Garden – City of Fernie at Prentice Park. Council approved the special occasion licence for the City of Fernie to operate a beer garden at Prentice Park on July 1, (Canada Day) from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., subject to the approval of the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
Agreements and contracts
Partnering Agreement with the Fernie Chamber of Commerce for delivery of the Victoria Avenue Summer Socials (VASS). Council authorized notice of its intention to provide assistance to the Fernie Chamber of Commerce under the terms of a Partnering Agreement to host the Victoria Avenue Summer Socials (VASS) from July 3, to August 28, for a fee of $15,000.
Following the requisite advertising the agreement will be brought forward for council’s consideration at the June 24 regular meeting.
– Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique lease agreement for use of two rooms at Max Turyk School. Council authorized notice of its intention to dispose of city property via a Lease Agreement with the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique from July 1 to June 30, 2016 for a specified monthly lease payment of $1,336.53. Following the requisite advertising the lease will be brought forward for Council’s consideration at the June 24 regular meeting.
Web Streaming Council Meetings
Council authorized staff to purchase the necessary audio/video equipment and software to provide the community with the availability to view videos of council meetings on-demand and so that Shaw could broadcast the meetings on the community channel.
Other informational items
2012 Annual Municipal Report
The 2012 Annual Municipal Report is available for public inspection online and at City Hall during regular office hours. Council welcomes all submissions and inquiries from the public respecting the 2012 Annual Report. The report will be presented at the June 24 regular meeting.
Wapiti Music Festival Society – August 9, 10 – Kevin McIsaac of the Wapiti Music Festival Society provided council with an overview of this year’s upcoming event and requested support from council for equipment and staff assistance. Council supported their request.
