Fernie Museum grand opening
The grand opening of the Fernie Museum took place on Sept. 28, with a Heritage Tea, including period costumes and a performance of ‘Coal Creek Ladies sitting waiting for the train.’
City of Fernie Mayor Mary Giuliano, Kootenay-Columbia MP David Wilks, Nic Milligan of Teck and master of ceremonies, city Coun. Randal Macnair provided speeches to commemorate the moment.
“The building and everything in it is due to the dedication of the Fernie Historical Society, headed by many incredible volunteers over the years,” Giuliano told e-KNOW, adding, “with current board member Laura Nelson at the helm the members of the board, along with curator Mike Pennock, worked to form a dream into a reality. Thanks also to city council, who had the vision to purchase the building for use as a museum.”
