Giuliano acclaimed in Fernie

City of Fernie Mayor Mary Giuliano will return for a second term in office following the Nov. 15 general election.

Giuliano was acclaimed as mayor Oct. 10 following the nomination deadline.

However, Fernie voters will have to select a new council as seven residents have stepped forward to claim the six council seats.

Four current councilors are seeking re-election, including Phil Iddon, Dan McSkimming, Willard Ripley and Joe Warshawsky, while Jon Levesque, Ange Qualizza and Dennis Schafer are also seeking election.

Of note, former mayor and councilor Randal Macnair has opted not to run again.

Giuliano said she is honoured to be able to serve the community she has spent her entire life in.

“Thank you so much Fernie. You know I will work as hard as I have in the past four terms on council. Thank you for another opportunity to serve my town and the wonderful residents who call it home. It is a privilege and an honour to serve you again. I look forward to good things ahead for this wonderful community,” she said on Facebook following her acclamation.
