Healthy Kimberley Community Celebration

As part of our Healthy Kimberley project under the East Kootenay Division of Family Practice’s ‘A GP For Me’ project, a Community Celebration took place on Saturday, May 30 from 1-5 p.m. at Kimberley’s Rotary Park.

Despite periods of rain/thunder storm warnings throughout the day, the event was successful in attracting families, connecting community members with various health-oriented businesses and organizations, and promoting healthy behaviours.

The event featured Kimberley health and wellness providers, sports and trails associations, businesses, the media, families and Kimberley residents who came out to enjoy the healthy snacks, information, music, a myriad of activities including an O’Mazing Race, mini yoga demonstrations, fun boot camp, volleyball and hula hooping.

The focus was on Live 5-2-1-0 and encouraged participants to eat at least five fruits and vegetables per day, limit ‘screen time’ to a maximum of two hours, increase physical activity (at least one hour per day)and to drink water as the beverage of choice.

For more information contact Kimberley’s Health Promotion Coordinator, Erna Jensen [email protected] or like our Healthy Kimberley Facebook page.

A GP for Me is a joint initiative of the Government of BC and Doctors of BC.
