Lieutenant Governor visiting valleys and Kimberley, too
On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, commences a busy four-day trip to the East Kootenay, starting with a visit to five Columbia Valley communities.
She heads south and east on Sept. 4 for a series of visits in Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie and Sept. 5 and 6 she is making a number of stops, starting in Kimberley Thursday morning and Cranbrook Thursday afternoon and Friday.
The following is the Lieutenant Governor’s itinerary.
September 3
Events in Radium Hot Springs
9 a.m. Visit to Edgewater Elementary School, 5813 Sinclair Street, Edgewater. Her Honour will address the students during an assembly.
9:50 a.m. Tea with Seniors from Radium Hot Springs Seniors Hall, 4863 Stanley Street. Her Honour will visit with the residents and guests.
Events in Invermere
11 a.m. Visit to J.A. Laird School, 1202-13 Ave., Invermere. Her Honour addresses the students during an assembly.
1 p.m. Tea at CPR Lodge – Open to the public 1720-4th Avenue, Invermere. Her Honour will visit with residents and guests at the Lodge (pictured above).
Events in Fairmont Hot Springs
3:55 p.m. Community Reception – Open to the public. Lions Community Den at 5003 Hot Springs Road, Fairmont Hot Springs.
Events in Canal Flats
6:30 p.m. Community Reception – Open to the public Canal Flats Village Office, 8866 Grainger Road, Canal Flats.
September 4
8:55 a.m. Visit to Elkford Secondary School, 2500 Balmer Drive, Elkford. Her Honour will address the students of Elkford Secondary School and Rocky Mountain Elementary School at an assembly.
10:10 a.m. Visit with seniors and firefighters at the Elkford Community Conference Centre, 750 Fording Drive, Elkford.
1 p.m. Visit to Lilac Terrace Seniors Facility, 102-2nd Avenue, Sparwood. Her Honour will visit with the residents and guests.
1:50 p.m. Sparwood Secondary School, 101 Blue Spruce Crescent, Sparwood. Her Honour will address the students of Sparwood Secondary School and Frank J. Mitchell Elementary School at an assembly.
4 p.m. Fernie Aquatic Centre – Dirt Bike Park 250 Pine Avenue, Fernie. Her Honour will watch a dirt bike riding display.
4:20 p.m. National Western Regional Mine Rescue Competition, Fernie Memorial Arena, 692 6th Avenue, Fernie. Her Honour will have a tour of the set-up for the National Western Regional Mine Rescue Competition.
4:50 p.m. Miners Walk Exhibit, 501-3rd Avenue, Fernie. Her Honour will receive a tour of the exhibit from the Mayor.
5 p.m. Fernie Community Reception – Open to the public. Fernie Heritage Library, 492 3rd Avenue, Fernie.
September 5
9 a.m. Visit to McKim Middle School, 689 Rotary Drive, Kimberley. Her Honour will address the students at an assembly.
10 a.m. Visit to Garden View Village, 280-4th Avenue, Kimberley. Her Honour will have tea with the residents of Garden View Village.
10:30 a.m. Community Gathering – Open to the public. Kimberley Platzl, Spokane Street.
