Man arrested for possession of child pornography

Kimberley RCMP has arrested a 20-year-old male for Possession and Accessing Child Pornography.

Information had been forwarded to Kimberley from the BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit that the subject had been in possession of child pornography. An investigation was initiated and a search warrant obtained.

The search warrant was executed on Oct. 19 at which time the male was arrested and several computers were seized. The electronic equipment will be examined for further evidence to support charges of Possession of Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography.

Investigations of this nature can be worldwide and often involve a number of law enforcement agencies. In this case the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States received the information; this was passed on and processed through the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre in Ottawa. Once the location was determined, the BC Integrated Child Exploitation unit followed up to determine the owner of the IP address and persons associated.

They provided evidence to Kimberley RCMP members who obtained a search warrant for the residence where the evidence would be, effected the arrest and seized evidence.

The investigation is ongoing but to date there is no indication the material originated in Kimberley or that the community is at risk.

The subject was released on a number of very strict conditions for court in January 2016.
