MLA supports call for urban deer management funding

Local governments are continuing to struggle with management of urban deer with little help from the provincial government, and this is absolutely unacceptable, says Columbia River – Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald.
“For years I have been asking the provincial government to take full responsibility for the costs associated with management of urban deer,” said Macdonald. “But instead of stepping up to the plate, the provincial government has mostly left municipalities to fend for themselves.”
Mayor Gerry Taft of the District of Invermere has recently stated his intention to once again ask the province to fund any future deer management programs in his community.
“I have written to the minister reminding him of his responsibility to communities like Invermere and Kimberley, a responsibility that has been ignored for far too long,” Macdonald stated.
