Potential jobs everywhere at Career and Job Fair

Hundreds of students – high school and college – made their way through the College of the Rockies main campus gymnasium March 12, taking part in the eighth annual Career and Job Fair.

A partnership between Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce, the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, College of the Rockies and Kootenay Business Magazine, the fair is the largest in the East Kootenay.

The theme for this year’s event was ‘Discover Your Opportunities’ with several dozen employers from around the region and Southern Alberta taking part in the Summer Job Alley.

Prior to the Career and Job Fair, the Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly luncheon meeting in the COTR gymnasium, with guest speakers Daniel Tailor of Teck Coal, John Buda of Canfor, Heidi Romich of The Heid Out and Greg Fisher from Top Crop Pet and Garden answering questions about business and employer needs by Kootenay Business Magazine publisher Keith Powell.

A highlight of the event was an introduction of MasterChef Canada contestant Danielle Cardozo (pictured above with Keith Powell). A warm round of applause was given the Fernie-born and Cranbrook-based Cardozo who is among seven chefs left in the televised cooking contest that offers $100,000 to the winner.
