SD5 Board Notes
The following is a summary of motions carried September 9 by the School District No. 5 (SD5) board during its regular meeting in Cranbrook.
Committee meetings are not typically held in June. Therefore, no motions coming out of committee were carried.
Motions Carried
General
That the Board accept the 2014/2015 Student Achievement Contract Report.
That the Board send a joint letter to the Ministry of Education, Mr. Fassbender, and the BC Teachers’ Federation, President Mr. Jim Iker, urging the parties to immediately enter into binding arbitration through the process of a three-person arbitration panel to resolve the BC Public School Contract dispute, and to copy this letter to our education partners and to media.
That the Board send a letter to government in support of BCSTA’s request that government rescind its $40/day “program for parents” and instead keep those dollars in education.
That the Board approve the letter that was sent to the Minister of Education on August 5, urging our government to bargain now and to bargain fairly.
That the Board of Education approve the letter that was sent to BCPSEA and the BCTF on August 5, requesting a speedy resolution to the labour dispute.
