SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of board motions carried during the June 9 School District No. 5 (SD5) board meeting held in Cranbrook.

Motions Carried

Advocacy

That the board continue to work on the SD5 Strategic Plan at a planning session in the summer.

That the Board write a joint letter with our partner groups to the Ministers of Finance & Education, with a copy to the usual stakeholders, outlining our dissatisfaction with the constant budget reductions.

That the Board write a follow-up letter to Ministers de Jong and Fassbender with a copy to the usual stakeholders, regarding the compensation freeze in management and exempt staff.

That the Board write a letter to Premier Christy Clark and Minister Fassbender, with a copy to the usual stakeholders, outlining the Board’s dissatisfaction with the passing of Bill 11.

Finance/Operations/Personnel

That the Board of Education write letters of support for the City of Cranbrook’s bid to host either the 2017, 2018 or 2019 55+ BC Games.

General

Third reading of the Annual  Budget Bylaw in the amount of $61,443,814.*

By law, three readings of the bylaw must be completed prior to the end of June. First and second reading was carried at the Public Board Meeting of May 12.
