Writs issued for 44th provincial general election
A provincial general election has been called for Saturday, October 24.
Individuals are eligible to vote if they are:
a Canadian citizen;
18 or older on October 24, 2026; and
a resident of B.C. since April 23, 2026.
Eligible voters can register or update their voter information online at elections.bc.ca/register or by phone at 1-800-661-8683. Voters can also register in person when they go to vote.
Voting options
Advance voting will be available Friday, October 16 to Wednesday, October 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time). Advance voting locations and the dates they are open will be posted online at wheretovote.elections.bc.ca.
Voters can request a vote-by-mail package online at elections.bc.ca/votebymail, by phone at 1-800-661-8683, or in person at any district electoral office. The completed package must be received by Elections BC before 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on Final Voting Day.
The last opportunity to vote will be on Final Voting Day, Saturday, October 24. Voting places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Pacific time). Voters have an assigned voting place on Final Voting Day.
Information about other voting options is available at elections.bc.ca. Whatever voting opportunity they choose, all voters must prove their identity and residential address to receive a ballot. A complete list of acceptable identification is available on the Elections BC website.
Eligible individuals who register to vote by October 1 will receive a Where to Vote card in the mail. The card lists advance voting places in the voter’s electoral district and their assigned voting place for Final Voting Day on Saturday, October 24. Voters can also use their Where to Vote card as one piece of voter ID. Voters do not need a Where to Vote card in order to vote.
Candidate nominations close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. The complete list of candidates will be posted online at elections.bc.ca/candidates as soon as possible after nominations close.
Preliminary results will be reported as soon as possible after the close of voting at 8 p.m. (Pacific time) on Saturday, October 24.
Official results will be reported after the completion of final count, scheduled for November 10, 2026.
While both are taking place in October, the 2026 Provincial General Election and 2026 General Local Elections are separate electoral events. Each election has its own voting dates and locations, voter eligibility requirements, and rules about election advertising.
In the provincial general election, Elections BC is responsible for voting, counting, candidate nominations, campaign financing and advertising rules.
In the general local election, Elections BC is responsible for campaign financing and advertising rules. All other aspects of general local elections are administered by each local jurisdiction.
