Sight clearance work on Highway 93 in KNP

Parks Canada will begin roadside brushing and tree clearing along two sections of Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park (KNP).

KNP LoggingThe work will improve sightlines, resulting in improved safety for motorists and animals. Work will be underway from Monday – Saturday from, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. MT. Traffic control personnel will be on site, and motorists can expect speed reductions to 60 km/h and occasional stops up to 20 minutes to allow equipment access.

The tree clearing and brush removal will be completed by the end of March, and chipping and cleanup of debris will be completed by mid-June, Parks Canada estimated.

Brush clearing locations:

– Between Marble Canyon Day use area north to the Fireweed Day use area (a 7.5 km stretch – pictured);

– Between the Hector Gorge Viewpoint and Mount Hector Viewpoint (a 17 km stretch).
