Snowfall warning issued for Kootenays

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for much of the Kootenays this afternoon (Dec. 1), for tonight and tomorrow morning.

The warning is in effect for the West and East Kootenay including Cranbrook, Kimberley and the Elk Valley.

“Heavy snow will develop over southeast British Columbia tonight,” notes Environment Canada’s warning.

“A trough of low pressure digging southward along the British Columbia coast will cross the Kootenay region overnight, through early monday morning. This system, in combination with lowering freezing levels, will bring locally heavy snowfall. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible with locally higher amounts to 20 cm for the Elk Valley near Fernie.

“The snow will begin to taper off early Monday afternoon,” the report suggests.”
