Southeast District RCMP present honours

A Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Second Man, a Commanding Officer’s Commendation, a District Commander’s Certificate and almost 300 years of policing were honoured April 30 at St. Eugene Golf Resort and Casino.

Nineteen awards were handed out to 15 Southeast District RCMP officers, as well as four ‘Second Man’ awards, to wives of officers posted in rural locations who faced a wide-variety of often-dangerous challenges.

Among those honoured with Second Man awards was Radium Hot Springs resident Clara Reinhardt, as well as Trudy Lindstrom, Janice Simmonds and Beth Schauerte (posthumously).

Cst. Chris Elwood was presented with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, while Gerry Murdoch received a Commanding Officer’s Commendation and outgoing Cranbrook Detachment NCO S/Sgt. Lorne Craig received the District Commanders Certificate.

Craig received praise from Superintendent Tim Head for hanging in as “a temporary” detachment commander, who “filled in” for 16 months while a new detachment commander was brought aboard.

Long service awards were also handed out to officers.

Receiving 20-year awards were: Cst. Ken Hagen; Cpl. Scott Milliken (Cranbrook Detachment); Cpl. Deb Postnikoff; Cpl. Bob Potter (Cranbrook Detachment); Cst. Andy Reutgen (Elk Valley Detachment); Cst. Bob Roy (East Kootenay Traffic Services); and Cpl. Jeff Whitfield (Cranbrook Detachment).

Receiving 25-year awards were: Cpl. Dave Kronlund (Golden Detachment) and Cst. Louie Saule (Cranbrook Detachment).

Receiving 35-year awards:

Sgt. Dennis Blanch (Creston Detachment); Cpl. Kim Bloy; and Sgt. Einor Jorgenson (Cranbrook Detachment/East Kootenay Traffic Services).
