Wayward tot rounded up by Edgewater men

Columbia Valley RCMP Report

At 7:47 p.m. on March 22, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment received a report of a three-year-old child who made an escape from a residence in Edgewater. The child managed to make it two blocks before a group of men in the area came upon the child. Child and men attended to the nearest home. By the time the police arrived the mother had attended the location. Child is discovering the magic of doorknobs and insecure doors. Plans were put in place to make the residence more child escape proof. Our appreciation to the adults who took swift action.

Pump stolen

On March 21 Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment received a report of a stolen pump from the Glen Forest Service Rd. This theft would have occurred between Sept. 30 and Oct 14, 2012.

Unruly tourist gives bouncers hard time

At 12:16 a.m. on March 22 a 29-year-old male from Lake Cowichan made a complaint to Columbia Valley Detachment advising he was assaulted by bouncers at a local bar. Investigation revealed that the male was removed from the bar and twice he attempted to return. The male was intoxicated and was physically restrained from entering the bar.  On police attendance the male continued to be aggressive towards the bouncers.  He was removed from the area and escorted back to his hotel.

Assault charge

At 1:56 a.m. on March 25, Columbia Valley Detachment members were dispatched to a domestic assault complaint at a motel in Radium Hot Springs. Members located and interviewed a 40-year-old female victim from Calgary who had injuries to her face.  A 45-year-old male from Calgary was arrested and charged with assault. The male will appear in Invermere Provincial Court June 10.

Telus B&E suspect apprehended

At 7:50 a.m. on March 26, Columbia Valley Detachment was advised of a break and entry at the Telus building 400 block of 7th Ave.

An employee arrived at work to find a male in the building. The male fled on foot and was followed by the employee who provided a good description to police who were responding to the scene. The employee lost sight of the suspect male. Police attended to the last known location of the suspect and located a male fitting the description. The male was found to have property on him that identified him to the break and enter. A 21-year-old male from Invermere was arrested. At the time of this media release he remains in custody. A second break and enter complaint at Invermere Sales and Rentals was discovered while investigating the first break and enter.

The investigation is continuing.

Citizens on Patrol

Columbia Valley Detachment is seeking volunteers to become involved with Citizens on Patrol for both Radium Hot Springs and Invermere.  A number of volunteers have come forward for Radium and we are seeking at least two to four more. Invermere needs at least six to eight people to become involved.

These volunteers conduct patrols in the community and become the extra eyes and ears for the police in keeping our community safe.  Volunteers are security cleared and trained.  I would like to get this training completed by the end of April early June. If you are interested please give me a call at the Detachment, 250 342- 9292.

Odd requests

There are many times that I will be approached by the public with odd requests to assist in a project. Not long ago, I had a male attend the Detachment and inquire if we had any spare handcuffs that he could borrow. Odd request, but the fact he was wearing a Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey seemed to make it not so odd. Odd fans in the first place.

I had my suspicions as to the possible use. The male told me it was for his church and needed it for something they were planning to do for Easter. I’m far from being a Bbiblical scholar, but I don’t recall Christ being handcuffed nor were Gestas and Dismas  (Google  search engine makes us all scholars)  crucified with Jesus, placed in any type of handcuffs. I didn’t want to be part of re-writing history so I had to decline his request and provided divine guidance on where he might obtain handcuffs.  As the gentleman was about to depart empty handed, I offered further divine guidance and  informed him that the next time he attends my lobby he should not be wearing a Saskatchewan Roughrider jersey, as this was BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders territory. He raised his Roughrider mug up for me to see and I told him same goes for the mug.

We managed to keep it civil as we parted ways. The next time I saw him was at our sub office at Tim Hortons and he made a point of showing me he didn’t have the jersey on.  A clear sign that he wished to stay in good favor with me. Bet’s on next time B.C. and that other team play in regular season for the first two games versus BC and Calgary.  Medium coffee, two milk.
