Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, May 20 through May 26, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 53 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files our officers responded to.
90-day driving prohibition
On May 20, at 1:30 a.m., an officer was making patrols in Invermere when he observed a gold Subaru stop well before a set of traffic lights on Athalmer Road, then waited for some time before proceeding after the light turned green. The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking to the driver, he noticed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. The driver submitted to a breath demand which resulted in a fail. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
Tools stolen from shed
On May 24, a resident on Dincey Road in Radium Hot Springs reported a theft from a shed on the property. Missing was a grinder, a sander and a circular saw. It was unknown when the theft occurred.
Unruly and intoxicated youth in Fairmont
On May 25, shortly before midnight, police were called to a disturbance at a residence on Columbia Lake Road in Fairmont Hot Springs. The caller reported a male youth was intoxicated and had started breaking furniture inside the residence. When told to leave, the male started throwing rocks. Police located and arrested the youth nearby and released him to his parents.
Suspicious in Invermere
On May 25, at about 3:40 p.m., an individual called police to report a suspicious occurrence. The individual was in the parking lot of No Frills store in Invermere when an adult male with dark curly hair approached him and tried to sell him what he claimed to be an 18 karat gold ring for $200. The male was driving a SUV with a female passenger. An officer patrolled the area but was not able to locate the man.
Intoxicated and unruly in Radium lands man in cells
On May 26, at 3:30 p.m., police received a report of an intoxicated male at the Redstreak Campground in Kootenay National Park/Radium Hot Springs. Police spoke to the male who agreed to stay at a hotel for the night. Later the same evening police received a call from the Horsethief Pub in Radium for a male who was threatening bar staff. Police attended and discovered it was the same male they had dealt with earlier in the evening. The male was arrested for uttering threats and held in cells until he was sober.
