Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, July 20 through to July 26, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 97 calls for service.
The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Search and rescue aid ill hiker
On July 22, Columbia Valley RCMP received a Garmin SOS for a hiker who became ill. Columbia Valley Search and Rescue attended the scene via helicopter and returned the hiker to safety where they were taken to the hospital for assessment.
Person missing at Lake Lillian reunited with their family
On July 22, just after 7 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP was made away of a missing person near Lake Lillian. The missing had not been seen in over three hours. Search and Rescue was engaged along with several residents and visitors who aided in the search. Thankfully the missing was located and reunited with their family.
Stranded hikers rescued near Bugaboo Provincial Park
Just after 1 a.m. on July 25, Columbia Valley RCMP was contacted via iPhone emergency satellite for three stranded hikers near the Bugaboo Provincial Park. Search and Rescue was dispatched; however, due to the darkness could not attend until first light at which time hikers were helped off the mountain. One of the hikers had sustained a knee injury and required medical attention.
Edgewater brush fire knocked down
On July 26, Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of a brush fire behind the Edgewater Transfer Station. Wildfire fighters and a helicopter were quickly on scene and were able to contain the fire before getting out of control and spreading toward Edgewater.
Thanks to front line emergency and health crews
The RCMP would like to acknowledge and thank Search and Rescue personnel, local firefighters, wildfire crews, helicopter pilots, BC Emergency Health Services (EHS), and the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their dedication and hard work during the first half of the summer.
It has been an exceptionally busy start to the season in the Columbia Valley, and their professionalism, commitment, and tireless efforts have played a vital role in keeping residents and visitors safe.
