Time for 34th annual lakespiel and Snowflake Festival

Invermere’s Kinsmen Beach is going to be a rocking place this weekend, Jan. 20-22.

The 34th annual Bonspiel-on-the-Lake returns along with the eighth annual Invermere Snowflake Festival.

Snowflake fest 8thSixty-four teams take to the lake ice in Canada’s longest running lake bonspiel, while the sights, sounds and tastes of the Snowflake Festival wrap everything in a festive bow.

Bonspiel organizers have their fingers crossed that Old Man Winter will keep things on the cooler rise heading to the weekend. The bonspiel has been forced indoors to the Invermere Curling Club the past two years due to unstable ice conditions. The curling rink remains the fall back plan in case of bad conditions.

Things are also looking good for the Snowflake Festival and Taste of the Valley, which offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation thanks to the White Way.

Things get rolling Friday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. with live music, bonfires, Taste of the Valley offering all sorts of groovy grub and the event ends with a bang at 8 p.m. with fireworks.

The festival is free to attend and passports for Taste of the Valley are $10 available for purchase at the event entrance.

Remember to dress for the conditions though there are fires to keep you warm and there is also the warming hut at the bonspiel, which also starts at 4 p.m.
