Long-time Invermere Fire Chief passes
The officers and firefighters of Invermere Fire Rescue are saddened to announce the passing of retired fire chief Roger Ekman.
Roger served with Invermere Fire Rescue for 40 years; 36 years of that as Fire Chief – before retiring in June of 2018.
It goes without saying that Roger was a pivotal member of our community and our fire department. During his tenure as fire chief, Roger is credited with many great accolades and accomplishments, including, but certainly not limited to, the creation and implementation of our road rescue program, as well as renovating the old high school into a new firehall to create space to enhance the services for Invermere and the valley.
Roger had a knack for making big things happen with a minimal budget.
However, we feel that Roger’s greatest accomplishment, and gift, is the countless firefighters he trained throughout his years. Those men and women that were fortunate enough to work with Roger will continue to carry a piece of him with them forever, and his legacy will live on through our work, our commitment to the community, and our dedication to the fire and rescue service.
Rest easy, Chief. You’ve trained us well.
