Kicking Horse Highway 1 closures begin Monday

The Trans-Canada Highway will be closed for improvement work in the Kicking Horse Canyon east of Golden, starting Monday, March 29.

Starting Monday and running to Friday, April 9, there will be two-hour evening closures from 7 to 9 p.m. and overnight closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During overnight closures, traffic will be diverted down Highway 93 to Radium Hot Springs and then north to Golden on Highway 95.

Eastbound traffic will turn south on Highway 95 at Golden and head to Radium to turn north back to Castle Junction and Highway 1.

Mondays to Saturdays between March 29 to April 9 there will be single-lane alternating traffic -from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Highway 1.

An extended (24-hour) closure begins April 12.

During Easter weekend (Thursday noon to Tuesday noon) the highway will be fully open.

Traffic conditions are anticipated to become extremely heavy in Radium Hot Springs during the Trans-Canada closures. There may also be an increase in traffic on Highway 3 as some travellers take the alternate east-west route.
