Small fire extinguished at Columbia Valley Landfill
A small fire was quickly extinguished at the Columbia Valley Landfill overnight.
“When our firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was burning in a small area within the garbage. We were able to quickly get water on it, and with the assistance of the contractor on site, spread the garbage out to ensure all the hot spots were wet down and the fire was fully extinguished,” said Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Service Deputy Chief Jon Tames.
The call came in at approximately 11:30 p.m. and nine firefighters responded with two pieces of apparatus. The fire was quickly knocked down and there were no injuries. “Everyone did an excellent job of ensuring the fire was confined to the site of origin and did not spread,” added Tames.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
