Windermere Beach facilities damaged by vandals

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has temporarily reduced the opening hours of the public washroom facilities at Windermere Beach following a recent string of vandalism over the past week.

“Vandals not only broke a sink and toilet and left graffiti all over the facility, they broke the Automatic Defibrillator (AED) case. There is no excuse for this behaviour and it’s beyond frustrating to see such flagrant disrespect at our park,” said Environmental Services Manager Kevin Paterson.

The RDEK has reported the damage to the RCMP and will be temporarily closing the facilities at 7 p.m. nightly in the hopes that no further damage occurs, and normal hours can be restored within a couple of weeks.

“If anyone has any information on who is responsible for these acts of vandalism, we encourage you to report it,” added Paterson.

Windermere Beach is located at the end of Selkirk Street in the community of Windermere and features a large beach and swimming area, playground and picnic area.
