Windermere home destroyed in fire

A residential house fire last night has destroyed a home on Upper Lakeview Road in Windermere.

Members of the Windermere Fire Department, with assistance from the Invermere Fire Department, worked until well after midnight dousing the flames.

“The house itself will be a total loss,” said Columbia Valley Rural Fire and Rescue Service Fire Chief Jim Miller.

“Fortunately, all the occupants were able to get out of the home and there were no injuries,” he said.

The original call came in at 9:45 p.m. and 14 firefighters answered the call. They remained on site were on site until well after 1:30 a.m. making sure hot spots were dealt with.

“Working in the cold and deep snow, the crew did a great job in difficult conditions,” added Miller.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Miller expects to be on site today to begin the investigation.
