CDCF establishes 27th endowment fund

The Cranbrook and District Community Foundation (CDCF) is thrilled to announce the establishment of its 27th permanent endowment fund: the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund.

The Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund will support projects and programs for the advancement of the arts, culture, and heritage in our community. Areas of support could include public performances and exhibitions of an artistic nature, educational programs and workshops related to arts or heritage, and physical projects protecting or enhancing cultural or heritage buildings.

Lynnette Wray, CDCF Executive Director said, “The Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund is permanently invested with the Vancouver Foundation, with an initial contribution of $12,250. This capital will provide an annual grant, every year, forever.”

According to Dave Struthers, CDCF President, “Melba Hanson initiated this fund in 2008, as an opportunity fund. Melba was a passionate participant in and advocate for arts, culture, and heritage in our community. Melba was also our first staff person with the CDCF, and she played a key role in establishing and building the Community Foundation, using her expert skills to apply for grants and find matching funds. She was a very special person, making a positive impact on the many causes she became involved in. Melba passed away in 2015, and it is an honour and a privilege to remember Melba in this way, with the endowment of the fund that she started.”

Wray added, “Endowing the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund in memory of Melba Hanson’s many contributions to our community is a wonderful way to celebrate Community Foundations Month this September. As part of Community Foundations Month, we would like to invite members of the community to consider donating to the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund, or to one of our other permanent endowment funds.”

The Cranbrook and District Community Foundation is a registered charitable organization and is one of 52 Community Foundations in B.C.
