Cranbrook RCMP is thanking the public for their patience and cooperation following a police incident on August 31, that prompted road closures and a large police presence near Canadian Rockies International Airport.

Early yesterday afternoon, Cranbrook RCMP received a report of an individual in distress. Public safety quickly became the priority, and a wide range of specialized resources were called in to support frontline officers.

Throughout the incident, Cranbrook RCMP worked closely with specialized RCMP units, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Police Dog Services (PDS), Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), and Critical Incident Command personnel.

Officers from Kimberley RCMP also assisted in ensuring a safe outcome.

“This incident demonstrates the value of specialized policing resources and the strong collaboration between local officers and support units,” said Cst. Munro, Media Relations Officer, Cranbrook RCMP.

“Our primary objective was to ensure the safety of the public, our officers, and the individual in crisis. Thanks to the professionalism and coordinated efforts of everyone involved, the situation was resolved peacefully.”
