Cranbrook Transfer Station Reuse Centre reopening
The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Board today approved the re-opening of the Reuse Centre at the Cranbrook Transfer Station.
“The Reuse Centre was closed in early 2024 due to ongoing issues we were experiencing at the site including continuous break-ins and vandalism which caused costly damage to our fences, the buildings and property that potentially put staff and the public at risk,” explained RDEK Board Chair Rob Gay.
“Our board recognizes how important that facility is to the wider community and we are hopeful that the previous challenges will not re-occur, so have approved the re-opening of the Reuse Centre.”
While an official opening date has not yet been determined, when it does re-open the Reuse Centre will be operational from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The official reopening date will be announced soon and will be well advertised.
The RDEK Board will review the impacts of the reopening after six months of operation.
The Cranbrook Transfer Station is located in an industrial area on the north end of the city. It is one of six RDEK Reuse Centres and was the only one temporarily closed.
