East Kootenay Air & Army Cadets Home-towner

Air Cadet Corey Hambalek from the Cranbrook squadron spent the January 27-28 weekend at the Kootenay Cadet Sports Weekend held at Selkirk College in Castlegar.

The Sports weekend had 160 cadets from 12 cadet units from the East and West Kootenay. During the weekend, the cadets did a fitness assessment, team sports, swimming and orienteering.

Corey, who lives in Cranbrook, has been a member of 552 Key City Air Cadet Squadron for one and half years.

Corey enjoys going on the Field Training Exercise, eating the Meals Ready to Eat and fitness.

In his time in Cadets, Corey has learned about Aviation, leadership and survival. He hopes to attend the Survival Instructor Course.

The Cadet program, which includes Sea, Army and Air Cadets, is the largest government funded youth program in Canada with over 50,000 participants across Canada. The cadet program accepts youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a desire to learn more about the air element of the Canadian Forces, wish to develop the attributes of leadership and good citizenship and who wish to promote physical fitness. While the program is military based, there is no obligation for a cadet to join the Canadian Armed Forces.
