EKFH Caregiver Support Workshop May 30
Caregiving for a loved one can be very rewarding, but also involves many stressors, changes in the family dynamic, household disruption, financial pressure, and the added workload.
The key point is that caregivers need care too and such is the subject matter for an upcoming Caregiver Support Workshop funded by East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) and 2015’s third-party fundraiser Aggie’s Fall Fling organized by local resident Kevin Dunk.
The Tuesday, May 30 workshop will be led by guest speaker Allison Reeves M.A., RC.C. and will cover the following topics:
– Long-term caregiving: Staying emotionally well over the long term;
– When Unpredictability becomes the norm;
– Managing the ongoing losses of caregiving;
– How to avoid losing yourself.
Ms. Reeves is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and has been since 1994. Her three areas of extensive background are: family caregiving, chronic physical illness, as well as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Tickets are $20 each and available from Lotus Books, 33 10th Ave S, Cranbrook. Space is limited so EKFH suggests purchasing your tickets early.
The workshop takes place at the Manual Training School (adjacent to the Cranbrook Public Library) 1212 2nd Street N, Cranbrook and runs from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The cost of the ticket includes a light lunch being catered by Max’s Place.
