Expect minor traffic delays May 22

Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 22, drivers will see some minor traffic delays as work begins on paint removal and survey layout work for lane realignment on 14th Avenue South from Baker Street to 2nd Street South, and the intersections of Baker Street and 10th Avenue South and Theatre Road and Ridgeview Road.

14th Avenue South To 2nd Street South – Line Painting

Extending the bike lanes on 14th Avenue this spring and building on changes made in recent years. The lanes will run from Baker Street to just south of 2nd Street South, creating a more complete connection between downtown and the Rotary Way trail that continues south on 15th Avenue.

To help support the new layout, the intersection at 14th Avenue and 2nd Street South will see a few updates, including removing the right-turn-only lane and adding extended no-parking areas. These changes will help improve alignment and sightlines, meet current safety standards, and better manage growing traffic volumes.

Baker Street & 10th Avenue South Intersection

A recent traffic study confirmed this intersection will remain a permanent four-way stop. It has operated as a four-way stop since August 2025, when a lightning-related power surge caused the traffic signals to fail. As part of the new design, each approach will have one lane, and the dedicated left- and right-turn lanes will be removed.

Theatre Road & Ridgeview Road Intersection

Crews will be adding a left-turn lane on Theatre Road for drivers to be able to access Ridgeview Road by Kal-Tire. The yellow centre line will be removed to make room for the new left-turn lane.

Traffic delays are expected to remain for most of the day. Drivers are encouraged to please detour around these areas if at all possible.

Painting of the new lines is expected to be completed Friday evening, with the crosswalks and other important road markings being completed early next week.
